Zookeeper Reviewed

Picture this, you're a man who works in your dream job and you've got this gorgeous girlfriend who is any man's dream girl. You're planning to propose to her because you want to spend the rest of your life with her.

Sounds like you're living a good life doesn't it? Well in Zookeeper, Kevin James plays a character who has his dream job and his dream girl, only thing is his dream job is being a Zookeeper which his girlfriend, played by Leslie Bibb says is keeping her away.

Talk about shattered dreams.

The Plot

In Zookeeper, the animals at the Franklin Park Zoo love their kindhearted caretaker, Griffin Keyes (Kevin James). Finding himself more comfortable with a lion than a lady, Griffin decides the only way to get a girl in his life is to leave the zoo and find a more glamorous job.

The animals, in a panic, decide to break their time-honored code of silence and reveal their biggest secret: they can talk! To keep Griffin from leaving, they decide to teach him the rules of courtship – animal style

The comedy stars Kevin James, and featuring the voices of Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone, Nick Nolte, Don Rickles, Judd Apatow, Jon Favreau, Cher and Faizon Love. The film is produced by Sandler's production company, Happy Madison.

The Verdict

Zookeeper is no summer blockbuster with mind blowing special effects or does it have a storyline that keeps you thinking even after you have left the cinema .The plot is predictable if you have watched enough of these happy ending comedies and it does look dated with everything else being high end 3D these days. Yet what the movie does offer are the likable voice acting of the talking animals and Kevin James who did a good job of developing this lovable screen persona as the underdog nice guy. Much like what he did in Hitch, only better.

While Zookeeper wouldn't be ranked with the likes of magic welding kids, robots with legendary voice actors or even a shield throwing man in blue, Zookeeper does make for a nice end of work movie or those looking for a good laugh.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Zookeeper makes for a great National Day holiday movie and it's a good take on the underdog guy while nicely finding it's values towards the end.

Zookeeper opens in cinemas 9 August
