We Are The In Crowd Concert @ *SCAPE Warehouse

Formed in 2009 originally as a studio project between Taylor Jardine on vocals, Jordan Eckes on vocals and guitar and Mike Ferri on bass, We Are The In Crowd sure has come a long way to date as a full fledged band with Rob Chianelli and Cameron Hurley adding to the line up on drums and guitar.

The the Poughkeepsie, NY, natives later signed on with Hopeless Records and started to carve out a nice niche following among listeners in the young adulthood category of life. From the feeling of being tongue-tired while meeting that special person to being heartbroken at rejection, betrayed or even being judged by external expectations, this pop punk band had no problems connecting.

With an one night only concert at the *SCAPE Warehouse thanks to Reconstrux Bookings, the atmosphere at on that Tuesday night was anything but quiet as fans of We Are In The Crowd were all eagerly awaiting the start of the concert.

Kenneth Wong reports from the Photopit of the *SCAPE Warehouse on this energy high concert.

Opening the night was local band, Attention! The New Portsdown, who won the contest held by apparel sponsor Macbeth Singapore to open for We Are In The Crowd. Performing self written songs like Always and Take Control, Attention! The New Portsdown definitely got the crowd going in anticipation for the main act.

Their cover of New Found Glory’s Understatement was a nice touch to their set and as a little bonus, We Are In The Crowd’s vocalist Taylor Jardine came out onto stage to snap a few shots of the crowd and with the band to the approval of everyone there.

Next up to take to the stage was Malaysian band Oh Chentaku, who had recently won the Battle of the Indie Bands competition in 2011. No stranger to the stage, Oh Chentaku has been performing in music festivals such as Rockaway Festival and Future Music Festival Asia.

The Oh Chentaku set was full of energy and even though one of their songs, Jupiter was sung in Malay, you could still see most if not all of the crowd enjoying the song. The band members enthusiasm and passion could be easily seen throughout their performance which made the technical difficulties at the start a memory easily forgotten.

With both Attention! The New Portsdown and Oh Chentaku setting the mood for the night, the crowd went wild as all 5 members of We Are The In Crowd took to the stage and performed their hit single, Rumor Mill. Fans sang along word for word and even with my Etymotic High-Fidelity Earplugs on (as recommended by many other concert photogs), I had no problems making out what the fans were singing.

The energy level stayed high throughout the band’s set as they performed favorites such as Exits and Entrances, This Isn’t Goodbye, It’s BRB, For The Win, Never Be What You Want and my personal favorite, Kiss Me Again. Singapore fans also had a special surprise as the band performed The Worst Thing About Me, which according to Tayor Jarine was never performed live before.

Overall the concert was one full of energy as can be seen from the members of We Are The In Crowd with their on stage ethics and the way they engaged the crowd. The fans also looked like they enjoyed themselves as they went wild during the final song, Both Sides Of The Story and with a promise by the band they will be back soon, I am sure it was a night to remember for all the fans present.
