Even with the Transformers: Age of Extinction movie still a good month away, Transformers fever has already hit town with about 1,000 fans queuing up for the TRANSFORMERS Toy Madness @ 2200 event. Organised by Hasbro Singapore and held at Toys’R’Us at Forum The Shopping Mall, the queue began forming as early as 2pm, a good eight hours before the launch, in hopes to the first in Singapore to take home Transformers: Age of Extinction movie merchandises.
And to keep the mood and the atmosphere going before the official launch, a host of fun filled activities were planed for those queuing up. From having their finger movement skill tested to answering Transformers related questions, there was never a dull moment as the clock ticked away to launch time.
As a special treat for everyone present, the stars of Ah Boys To Men, Tosh, Wei Liang, Maximillian, and Noah, made a special appearance as well. Big fans of the Transformers toys themselves, the four of them joined in the activities as the anticipation for unveiling of the Transformers: Age of Extinction toy line grew bigger.
Fans also achieved the first millionth decibels in roars at the event for the Lion City Roars for Grimlock, a Facebook mobile application that enabled users to submit roars via their mobile phones. Last month, Transformers fans in Singapore were challenged to see if they could contribute a total of one million decibels to show their fervor for Grimlock, the Transformers Dinobot leader that will be making an inaugural appearance in the upcoming movie. I think Grimlock himself would definitely be proud of all the roars for him collected here in Singapore.
Joining in the count down as 30 minutes remained on the clock, two iconic characters from the Transformers universe made their grand appearance much to the delight of many who got to meet and take photos with their favourite Transformers Autobots. After which Optimus Prime, Bumble Bee and Ah Boys To Men led the countdown to the launch of the much-anticipated Transformers: Age of Extinction movie merchandise.
At the stoke of 2200 hours, the first group of fans were allowed into the store to explore the many Transformers: Age of Extinction toys and merchandise available on sale. From adults who grew up with the Transformers univierse to kids who inherited this love for the never ending war between the Autobots and the Decepticons, you could sense this united joy and excitment that transends even the age barrier.
I myself had to hide that drop of tear as I saw both children and adults alike looking at all the wonderful Transformers toys with all that excitment. Memories of my first Grimlock flooded my mind as I resisted the urge to pick up the Dinobot leader in all his new found glory. Not yet I told myself, not until I found space worthy of the Dinobot leader at my work desk.
It was definitely a nice experience just being there to see all the happy and excited faces, both young and old, exploring the latest product line of Transformers toys from Hasbro. It is good to see that the Transformers following is still going strong here in Singapore and as I too join the millions around the world in wait for the Transformers: Age of Extinction movie release, I know that I am not alone.
Many thanks as well to the good people at Hasbro Singapore for the Optimus Prime that now stands guard over my living room. The wait for the movie may seem like eternity, but with Optimus with me, the time of waiting seem more bearable.
