Top 5 Console Games Wishlist for 2012

2011 was a great year for both Console and PC gamers with many great games released such as Skyrim, Batman Arkham City, Modern Warfare 3, Battlefield 3, Uncharted 3. As we enter the new year with even more games scheduled for release, POPCulture Online's Chen Kangyi shares his top 5 console games wishlist for 2012.

5. Counter Strike: Global Offensive

With the current shooter market over saturated with call of duty clones, it’s great to see the father of modern FPS come back to take a swing at the current generation of gamer. The inclusion of Cross platform play and the Molotov cocktail injects enough freshness to attract the new age of FPS fans who are too used to regenerating health and respawns(who would get a rude awakening when they find out that their limbs would not grow back) while still keeping the same successful formula which made this game great a decade before. It’s time to dust off that old AWP and M4 because the king of First-Person Shooters is coming back to claim his throne back.

4. Soulcalibur V

The SC series has always been seen by fighting game aficionados as the thinking man’s Tekken, the combat system rewards the more cautious player rather than the player who could pull off the most whimsical combos. This year a new gauge has been added that works similarly to the "super meters" found in other fighting games, enabling the player to execute "Brave Edge" and "Critical Edge" attacks which are similar to the Hypers and Supers in the Street Fighter series. The guest character this year is Ubisoft’s iconic Assassin, Ezio Auditore da Firenze from the Assassin's Creed series.

3. UFC Undisputed 3

MMA is currently the fastest growing sport in the world and since the release of the 1st UFC game on current generation consoles many have tried to replicate the spectacle of MMA but none has come close to the UFC Undisputed Series. This 3rd installment is set to cement its place as THE MMA game of the year. In addition to only fighting in the UFC, UFC 3 allows players to fight in the now defunct PRIDE FC with Pride rules(Knee strikes from guard and head stomping), ring(square ring instead of an octagonal cage), and fighters. Commentary will be provided by MMA Hall of Famer Bas Rutten and Stephen Quadros.

2. Street Fighter X Tekken

The eternal rivalry between the 2 greatest fighting series will be settled. This game would be developed by Ono’s team with no input from Harada’s team while another game would be developed by Harada’s team with no input from Ono’s team. They pull out all the stops for this game including a myriad of cancels and the inclusion of a Gem system would make this game appeal to both hardcore fighting game veterans and new players alike.

1. Mass Effect 3

The final chapter in Commander Shepard’s crusade to save the galaxy from a race of sentient machines known as Reapers. All your decisions from both Mass effect games would impact the final showdown between the Reapers and all of civilization. The combat has been refined to a shine and the addition of a weapon upgrade system makes sure that no 2 rifles would fire the same.
