Several sources close to Marvel Studios’ Thor 2 project have revealed that Patty Jenkins are in talks to direct the next installment of the superhero movie in the Marvel Universe. The movie is set to begin shooting next April with plans to be in Cinemas July 2013.
While there has been no official statement from Marvel itself, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige did mention that plans have been developing for the sequel that would take Thor to other worlds in a literal sense. He went on to say that the movie would be about the journey of the character, of he and Jane Foster and how the new dynamic with his father (Odin) is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.
Of course, the Nine Worlds are all planes of existence which includes Earth that Thor and his Asgardian brethren recognize. It will be part of a push to expand the Marvel universe which includes many more intergalactic heroes and villains.
While there are talk that Thor will be getting a woman’s touch if Patty Jenkins takes on the director role, one just needs to watch the movie Monster or The Killing to know that she can be the opposite as well. This also means that hopefully Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman will be back as well to reprise their respective roles although for now only Chris Hemsworth is the only confirmed cast member for the movie.
