American rock band Switchfoot came to town to perform at The Rock Auditorium at Suntec City and the band's members are Jon Foreman (lead vocals, guitar), Tim Foreman (bass guitar, backing vocals), Chad Butler (drums, percussion), Jerome Fontamillas (guitar, keyboards, backing vocals), and Drew Shirley (guitar, backing vocals) made time for the press to talk about their upcoming album, their influences and share with us their favorite movies.
The press conference was hosted by Power98fm's Harry Corro from The Get Up and Go Show and he was all up and ready to go when the band walked in to a loud applause.
PCO: Over the past 15 years the band has made some pretty good music, where does the inspiration for this music come from?
Switchfoot: Well every night I see these songs for the first time and you add that inspiration with the energy of the people who are always there, like the sound guy or other people working with us and the fans as well.
It's a mix of all this energy that gives us the inspiration to keep on writing.
PCO: You won a Grammy this year for Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album, Hello Hurricane. How does it feel?
Switchfoot: Well the truth is we haven't received it yet, we're still waiting for them to mail it to us! Band laughs
Seriously though, it felt great to be recognised by the industry is an honor. Yet it felt strange at the same time because the next day it was back to work. Not much has changed really because all we want to do is to keep making good music.
PCO: Over the past 15 years how has your music matured?
Jon Foreman: Well we've all grown up. Tim graduated since our first record, Chad graduated since our third record and I dropped out of school. Band laughs
Honestly Music has followed our lives, it's like our autobiography. When you first start out your music is about your friends in school because your circle is small. But as you mature your circle becomes bigger, you travel more and so your songs become about more things.
PCO: If you could go back in time, what would you tell your former self?
Jon Foreman: There are certain things that make me feel grounded. I think of it like tree roots and I've turned to these roots and used them while we're on tour. So I'd tell my former self to remain grounded.
Drew Shirley: Well mine would be something similar except I'd say Watch out for that step. Band laughs
PCO: What's your favorite movie?
Chad Butler: Starwars
Jerome Fontamillas : Shawshank redemption
Drew Shirley: Dumb and dumber
Jon Foreman: Dumb and dumber
Tim Foreman: 3 strikes for Dumb and dumber! Band laughs
PCO: Finally, tell us about your upcoming album Vice Verses?
Switchfoot: Vice Verses is about the polarities of life. It is about pushing boundaries and so being our 8th record, we wanted to really push boundaries. Now although it does take a darker tone, there is a lot bright sides as well.
