The Singapore Toys, Games & Comics Convention (STGCC 2014) Media Preview was held at The Vault, a trendy place where creativity meets popular culture meets good food on a nice sunny Thursday morning. With an expected crowd of over 45,000 this weekend at the Marina Bay Sands, this year’s edition of STGCC looks to be another exciting weekend for both eastern and western popular culture fans. With high expectations and eager anticipation, Kenneth Wong, Ken Koh and Alex Tan made their way down to check out what STGCC 2014 has in store for everyone.
Hosting this year’s STGCC 2014 Stage Activities and the Media Preview itself is familiar voice and face, Radio DJ and Sports TV host, Elliott Danker, who is also POPCulture Online’s Editor in chief and the only guy we know who is crazy enough to wall mount his batmobile. Giving members of the media a quick run through what to expect this year, he also welcomed 4 of the many popular culture personalities coming to STGCC 2014 on stage for an informal but informative session.
The four were Matt “Sekure D.” Fabris who is a sneaker artist and toy designer, Humberto Ramos who is the current lead artist on the Amazing Spider-Man comic series, Alex Solis who is the artist behind the famous Chunkies series and Lenneth XVII a cosplayer who has impressed many not just in Singapore but also abroad in the US where she is now based.
Following the stage segment, the whole place was transformed into a mini showcase gallery format where each of the guest were given a section of the venue to not only talk to members of the media but also do what they do best. From drawing an overweight spiderman chomping down a burger for from Alex Solis to painting a Spider-Man inspired sneaker for Matt “Sekure D.” Fabris, the whole place was bustling with activity.
Lenneth XVII ws also in her element as she posed for pictures and talked about her adorable golden retriever while Humberto Ramos did a marker drawing of Spider-Man crawling along a web which drew the biggest crowd with him also currently working on the Newly re-launched Amazing Spider-Man series.
Members of the media were also in for a treat as we were able to get a first look at all the merchandise that will be available at STGCC 2014 this weekend. From the latest Hot Toys exclusive Iron Man 3: 1/6th scale Peacemaker (Mark XXXVI) to My Little Pony merchandise and not forgetting characters from the hit animated movie, Frozen.
