Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention 2011 Preview

With less than two weeks away to one of the highly anticipated pop culture event of the year, we take a look at some of the highlights of the upcoming Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention 2011 that have caught the attention of the POPCulture Online crew.

With the Captain America movie out in cinemas, superhero comic book fans will be pleased to know that Marvel will be back again this year for their "Portfolio Review by Marvel" as they look for new artist to join them. And that is not all, a special Singaporean cover to Captain America #1 will be on sale at $15 at the Marvel booth. But do be quick as only 500 will be available each day. And do say hi if you see a certain POPCulture Online cameraman queuing up to get his hands on it as well.

But thats not all for the comic book fans out there as heavyweights DC Comics will also be in town as well for their first appearance in South East Asia at STGCC. And if having a booth for visitors to check out new DC products and exclusive comics is not enough, STGCC Guest of Honor, Mr Paul Levitz whose work includes Justice Society, Superman, and Legion of Super-Heroes will be in town as well. Definitely a must meet for all the DC Comic fans out there.

And for cosplayers who will be coming down to STGCC on either day, do remeber to give it your all and pose for the crowd as Tadaaki "Jacky" Dosai from COSMODE will be in town for STGCC this year. Together with his cameraman, dress to impress and you might just be featured on COSMODE. The POPCulture online crew will be around as well with their cameras so do pose for us as you might be in our coverage article as well!

This is one event fans of Hot Toys will look forward to as 3 1/6th scale replicas will be unleased at STGCC 2011. They are the Batman Begins – 12” Batman figure (Batsuit Begins ver), Iron Man 2 – 12” Iron Man Mark 4 figure (Secret Project) and the Predator 2 – 14” Shadow Predator figure. I know our POPCulture Online editor is certainly very interested in this to add to his ever growing collection.

Last year's cosplay competition was one to remember with contestants cosplaying from popular series from both east and west. From the mighty Gundam Unicorn to the deadly Predator, fans were trilled with the stage performances. And with the standard of cosplaying here in Singapore improving plus special judges Kipi and Tadaaki "Jacky" Dosai, you can be sure this will be something worth camping the stage for. POPCulture Online's stage camping photog will definitely be there to cover it.

One thing which caught the attention of the POPCulture Online crew (or at least one of its writers) are the characters from Dooodolls. These wacky and adorable characters just puts a smile on your face and a mug for the office would definitely help make Mondays less blue. Oh and if you do see one of our POPCulture Online crew taking too long to decide which mug to buy, please remind him/her to hurry up and get back to work.

While it would be impossible to cover everything that will be happening at this year's Singapore Toy, Games & Comic Convention as these are only the tip of the iceberb, we do hope that we have tickled your taste buds enough to want to explore the whole place. After all with huge list of guest like voice actress Itou Shizuka, artist Kishida Mel, toy designer Andrew Bell and many more in town for the event, the POPCulture Online crew is sure it would be an event for both east and west pop culture fans to enjoy.

POPCulture Online will also be down for the STGCC media preview sometime next week so do check back here for more updates.
