Fans of anime, games and manga rejoice!! Coming up on 27th April, Neo Tokyo Project (NTP), Collateral Damage Studios (CDS) and Daiyaku are bringing us a new fan art event! (For those of you who are not familiar with CDS, they are the ones who contributed in bringing us Inori Aizawa, the personification of Microsoft’s Internet Explorer. You can refer to our earlier article about the woman behind the voice of Inori: https://www.popcultureonline.net/valentines-valerie/)
Doujin Market, or “Doujima” for short, marks the start of a bi-annual event which will take place in April and August, featuring more than 20 independent art groups and creators from Singapore and around the region. Extravaganza 2014, an annual regional art competition organized by CDS and tertiary student organisations such as NUS Comics and Animation Society (NUSCAS) and NTU Visual Arts Society (NTUVAS), will also be launched at the event in April (or the Spring Doujima).
In the spirit of celebrating fan art, other than the art booths at Spring Doujima, a series of workshops about narrative structure, character design fundamentals and colouring basics, will also be conducted.
Spring Doujima 2014 will take place at *SCAPE, in the Gallery (L5) on 27 April. Workshops will be conducted in the Situation Room in *SCAPE Hubquarters. Doors will open from 11am onwards.
It’s just apt that I have recently started re watching Bakuman, an anime series about two budding manga artists. See you at Spring Doujima, and let’s do our part to support the local art scene!
