SHINE Youth Festival 2011 Launch

As the overall winner of the "Best of the Best Awards" in Singapore Street Festival 2004, it was fitting that Erick Guansing was back on stage to perform after being in the limelight recently for presenting the finale item of the 117th IOC Opening Ceremony Launch.

An advocate for supporting young talent, Erick performed the song "Seasons of love" from the musical Rent with his students. He later mentioned that he likes to develop raw talent and it's even better if they have no experience singing because he can really mold the singer without any bad habits the student might have inherited.

It really continued to be a night of inspiration for the youth as many success stories came on stage to share their experiences and perform as a way of showing them how passion can lead you to success.

The sort of passion that local singer Tay Kewei had, having come a long way since her days as a backup vocal for singers such as David Tao, Wang Lee Hom, Ah-Mei and JJ Lin, and now has come out to be an artist on her own. Sporting a new tan from her recent trip to the Maldives, she performed a few of her popular hits to the delight of the audience.

With The Big Groove 2011, Asia's Hip Hop Festival by O School just around the corner, we took a break from stage activities to turn to the audience floor and a ring of people made way for a group of 4 freestyle dancers who showed off their moves right in the centre of the ring of people.

It was like a scene from a movie where you have these underground dancers showing off to each other in friendly dance "sparing".

With the concert already drawing massive amounts of energy from the crowd, it was time to bring on  a duo that needs little introduction, Jack & Rai have performed on almost every possible stage here in Singapore since they started out in 2002 and  the crowd pleasers treated fans to songs from Coldplay, Gavin DeGraw and much more together with their band E.I.C.

This was no doubt the reason by so many fans were in the crowd as they prepared to welcome on stage singer Derrick Hoh whose rise to stardom since coming in 2nd runner up in Project Superstar is nothing short but spectacular.

From hitting number 6 on Taiwan's Best Selling Album Charts on his debut album to being awarded Most Popular Singapore Artiste recently, it is no question why his fans were decked out in the official blue Derrick Hoh Fan Club T-Shirt at *SCAPE that night. From a few of his first hits to the latest one, you could hear his fans screaming all the way. It was also nice to hear him comment that coming back to Singapore was something he will always appreciate.

The Night ended with everyone coming on stage to perform the song "Home" which was a nice touch seeing how both Kewei and Derrick were back in Singapore performing at a local Youth event after being abroad performing. The message was clear to all youths that passion and dedication will lead you to success and at the same time you will find yourself in it by doing what you love. Enough Talk Just Do!
