Sato Takeru to star in the movie adaptation of Rurouni Kenshin

With talk of a movie adaptation of one of the most popular managa/anime series Rurouni Kenshin (or known as Samurai X to some) floating around the internet since last July, many wondered who would play the role of the lead character, Himura Kenshin from Nobuhiro Watsuki's masterpiece.

Sources on the internet have now confirmed that Sato Takeru will be taking on the role of Kenshin in the live action movie with Otomo Keishi (who also directed Ryomaden) directing it. Warner Brothers will be the production company for this.

Sato who made his debut as the lead in Kamen Rider Den-O commented that Kenshin is a well known character and he feels that fascinating acting is going to be needed for the role. He continues that he would like to create the Kenshin with the rest of the staff while staying as true to the original character as possible. He ends off by saying he will do his best and wants the fans to look forward to it.

When told that Sato has been cast for the role of Kenshin, author Nobuhiro Watsuki was pleased as he and his wife were wondering who could take on the role of Kenshin and Sato was the first name to come up on their mind. He adds on that he was both surprised and happy when it was confirmed and is looking forward to see his acting in the movie.

The rest of the cast members will be revealed on a later date with the movie scheduled to open in cinemas in 2012.
