From her humble beginnings of a high school punk rock band to being selected as the singing voice of the character Yui in the anime Angel Beats, LiSA is no stranger to the Japanese popular culture. And now with a mini album “Letters to U” to her name plus touring and performing in Japan to sell-out crowds, this young lady from the Gifu prefecture is definitely starting to make her mark in the music world.
POPCulture Online’s editor Elliott Danker catches up with LiSA again before her maiden performance at I Love Anisong this Anime Festival Asia 2011.
POPCulture Online: How does it feel to be one of the acts for AFA11?
LiSA: AFA is an event that puts the spotlight on Japanese Anime which is so popular all over the world. So I’m very glad and honoured to be able to play a part in this event especially because this is my first time performing at AFA.
POPCulture Online: Tell us about your personal style?
LiSA: I wear whatever I like and I think is cute really. The brands or cost don’t matter as long as I like it and think it’s cute.
POPCulture Online: What do you think is your most unique quality?
LiSA: I believe in being a representation of what I like and what I love! I don’t over do things, I believe in just being myself!
POPCulture Online: What’s the most important lesson you have learnt about being an artiste so far? And how has that shaped you to become the person you are today?
LiSA: I always want to be natural and I want to sing from my heart not my head or brain. It’s really just me being myself and I think that is the most important lesson one can take from being in show business.
POPCulture Online: Could you tell us about your upcoming plans for 2012?
LiSA: Of course I would like to perform in many other places and carry my happiness to many other people and so hopefully in 2012 I’ll be able to do more of the same.
POPCulture Online: What else do you hope to achieve as a singer?
LiSA: I would like to send love letters to many people through my music!
POPCulture Online: What about as an artiste? A movie perhaps?
LiSA: Haha! Well, I’m interested in many different things I can do as an artiste but having said that right now I would really like to concentrate on singing. As an artiste we’ll have to wait and see what the future holds.
LiSA definitely conveyed her feelingss to the crowd on the 2nd night of I Love Anisong through her music in what many fans deemed “an emotional night of anisong”. Watch out for POPCulture Online’s coverage of the I Love Anisong concerts, coming soon.
