RIO 2 Review

I loved the first film, in fact I spent weeks after watching imitating the sounds Blu made just cause I thought he was adorable. Well the sequel is out in cinemas, does it live up to the first one?

The Plot

It’s a jungle out there for Blu, Jewel and their three kids in RIO 2, after they’re hurtled from that magical city to the wilds of the Amazon. As Blu tries to fit in, he goes beak-to-beak with the vengeful Nigel, and meets the most fearsome adversary of all – his father-in-law.

All our favorite RIO characters are back, and they’re joined by Oscar nominee Andy Garcia, Grammy winner Bruno Mars, Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth and Oscar/Emmy/Tony winner Rita Moreno.

The Verdict

You gotta love an animation with some really funny songs, easy on the eyes visuals and an environmental message. It is predicable like most cartoons, I’ll admit that but it’s one of those guilty pleasures.

I remember the first one was hilarious and I was really looking forward to seeing my favourite characters voices by and Jamie Foxx. Bruno Mars had a Superbowl-esk entrance which drew lots of laughs in the cinema.

I particularly liked how they still focused on Blu being a domesticated bird struggling in the wild. I think if you haven’t seen the first film you don’t need to be worries because it’s pretty easy to catch on this one.

It’s got a lot of colour this one and the balance of characters was just nice in my opinion. It isn’t as snappy and clever as the first one but non the less definitely worth a watch!

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars

There is enough colour, wit and inventiveness for children and adults alike.
