Manchester United goalkeeping legend Peter Schmeichel drops by our shores as part of being an ambassador for Courts. While in Singapore for a two day stopover, he met the Courts Young Lions and shared with them some coaching tips as well as his own experience on football.
On Sunday 8 Apr, some 200 fans turned up at the Courts Megastore in Tampines just to get a glimpse of their goalkeeping hero. While most of them were Man Utd fans, there were even supporters from Aston Villa and Sporting Lisbon (where he spent his post Man Utd career) who turned up with replica Schmeichel jerseys for the Great Dane to sign.
Regarded as one of the world’s greatest goalkeepers, Schmeichel is best known for winning the 1992 European Championships with Denmark, and for his eight-year spell at United where most fans would claim that he single handedy kept Utd in the 1999 Champions League final which the team eventually emerged victorious to complete a historic treble.
Peter also spoke to Elliott Danker on his thoughts of Man Utd’s constant success, Mario Balotelli and Man City’s season so far as well as his thoughts on not being in the game anymore.
Tune in to the full interview on The Sporting Life, this Saturday 14 Apr from 11am to 2pm on Power 98FM
