Do we need a TMNT reboot?

It looks like we will really be getting a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot after all. Casting was done, filming was done and many fanboys were screaming outrage at news that Michael Bay was producing. All that was almost 2 years ago and now, we’ve seen the new trailer and some teaser posters have appeared online.

People now seem to be willing to give the movie a chance though we haven’t had any indication that the turtles would be alien as according to one of Michael Bay’s first comments about the reboot origin story.

There seems to be that humour that was present in the original film series even though the heroes in a half shell don’t quite look like how we remember them to be.

William Fichtner as The Shredder was probably the masterstroke casting. I loved the guy when he acted in Prison Break and his short bit in The Dark Knight was also equally intense. He plays villain perfectly so we can count on him at least to carry the film.

Megan Fox, where do I start? I think she’s lost her appeal. I mean she was great…………to look at in Transformers and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Apart from that, I really can’t think of any reason why she would be good as April O’Neil. Hey kudos to the signature yellow jacket (though it’s actually a jumpsuit in the cartoon) but April is like Lois Lane, she’s smart even though she constantly gets into trouble and for me I don’t think Megan can portray that on screen or rather has never portrayed that on screen.

You know, this movie could really use some Casey Jones. A bit of a smart ass street brawler to add a bit of flair to the film.

The budget for this film is $125 million so we’ll just have to wait till August to find out if it’s a hit or miss. At this point I still miss the old films and I don’t think we need this but hey, such is Hollywood.

If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the trailer for you to decide.
