Monsters University Review

Its been over ten years since the lovable pair of Michael “Mike” Wazowski and James P. “Sulley” Sullivan charmed movie goers in Pixar Animation Studios & Walt Disney Pictures’ Monsters Inc. Seeing how the two of them are top scarer team in the company, it would be hard to imagine them as anything but top students during their college days.

Well Pixar in their usual great story writing had other ideas…

The Plot

Set about 10 years before the events of the first movie, Monsters Inc., a young Michael “Mike” Wazowski set his life’s goal on attending the prestigious Monsters University to be a top scarer after a field trip to Monsters Inc.

Now at the age of 17, Mike (voiced by Billy Crystal) finally sees his dreams come true as he enrolls into Monsters University as a scaring major. Aiming to be the top student in class, everything seems to be going according to play till James P. “Sulley” Sullivan (voiced by John Goodman) appears.

From then on, a fierce rivalry explodes into one adventure that the both of them will never forget.

The Verdict

Pixar has once again shown themselves to be the masters of storytelling. There was not once did I feel that the movie was draggy and the almost two hour movie felt like an hour. Graphics were top notch especially when rendering the faculty of scare which I spent a good minute admiring.

Voice acting was superbly done and I got to highlight Helen Mirren who voiced Dean Hardscrabble, the headmistress at Monsters University. From that cold voice that can send shivers down your spine to the way her character was rendered, this was one dean I am glad I didn’t have in my university days.

Overall this is one movie that is easily recommended for the family. Even kids who might not appreciate the campus life reference would be able to bring home a precious lesson about being yourself.

Ratings: 4 out of 5 stars.
