Michael Shannon to play General Zod in Man Of Steel

Warner Bros. Pictures and Lengendary Pictures has announced that Michael Shannon of Boardwalk Empire fame has been signed to play the role of General Zod in the upcoming Superman movie, Man of Steel.

Director Zack Snyder commented,"Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role."

Michael Shannon was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the Academy Awards for his sole in Sam Mende's Revolutionary Road which stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. He was also part of the award-winning HBO drama series, Boardwalk Empire, produced by Martin Scorsese.

He will also be seen in the upcoming Jeff Nichols' Sony Pictures Classics' Take Shelter with producers Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder.

The screenplay for Man of Steel is written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan with executive producers Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips. The movie will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures.
