An established wrestling star having won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship many times over, Kazuchika Okada is no stranger to the squared circle with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). From his early wrestling days back in 2004 to his return to NJPW in 2010, Kazuchika Okada or “Rainmaker” has been wowing fans in Japan and aboard.
With his entertaining match fresh in our minds back in June during CharaExpo 2016, we catch up with the wrestling star before he comes back to Singapore for Wrestling World 2016.
How did you first get started with professional wrestling and how did Rainmaker come about?
Kazuchika Okada: Even when I went to high school, I didn’t have a goal in mind so I figured I could try to get started with pro-wrestling. The origin of “Rainmaker” is such that whenever I am around, I will keep winning titles and make the rain of money fall from the sky for New Japan Pro-Wrestling.
Having won the IWGP Heavyweight Championship, whats next for you?
Kazuchika Okada: As a champion, I would like to travel to many places.
What can wrestling fans look forward to from the Rainmaker this upcoming Wrestling World 2016?
Kazuchika Okada: Everything, from the time we make our entrance, to the matches and finally when we leave the ring. There is always something to look out for.
Do you have any message for wrestling fans here in Singapore?
Kazuchika Okada: Please make your way to Marina Bay Sands to be part of the moment where the rain of money falls.
Thank you Kazuchika Okada for your time and we look forward to seeing you make it rain at Wrestling World 2016!
