Marvel’s Avengers Initiative App Reviewed

After the movie comes the game and these days mobile apps seem to be the in thing. For one, the size of this app is huge – at over 1GB but based on graphics and game play you’d understand the need for it to be larger.

The Plot

The first installment of Marvel’s biggest cross‐over mobile gaming event… Level up, gear up, and fight as Hulk in the first adventure of an episodic series built exclusively for touch screen devices.

Track down and defeat some of the world’s most notorious villains like Wendigo, Abomination, The Kronan, and The Skrulls, and help THE AVENGERS pull the world back from the brink of catastrophe. Marvel’s Avengers Initiative, an episodic mobile gaming event unlike any other.

The Verdict

The background story is that an event know as Pulse has caused some super-villains from a prison to be freed and you’re job as an Avenger is to send them back to where they belong – behind bars! The good news is that you get to play as the big bad incredible Hulk! That should give you some physical advantage over the baddies……well not quite. I actually found it difficult to beat them as their levels went up and I have to admit, I do get quite impatient with tutorials so I didn’t listen to them.

Bad mistake because you need to listen those tutorials, otherwise you wont fair so well. Game play wise you’ll find yourself having to tap or slide across the screen to dodge, sidestep or deflect attacks from these Super Skrulls who are just hanging out at every corner of the map. Unlock and perform super moves by building up a rage meter as well. Apparently the game play is similar to Infinity Blade. Well to be honest I haven’t played that game to this was a new experience for me.

Once you get into the swing of things, it’s actually quite en enjoyable and stress relieving game!

Personally I’m not a huge fan of the Hulk so I’m glad to know that Marvel intends to release three more heroes for the game. Apparently these add-ons will be free so hooray! It will probably be the usual suspects of Captain America, Iron Man and Thor based on the trailer above.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5 stars

Takes a while to get used to but once you’re there it’s loads of fun.

Marvel’s Avengers Initiative is available now at US$6.99 and can be downloaded via iTunes. Optimized for iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and the New iPad. It will soon be released on Android devices as well.
