Justin Timberlake: The 20/20 Experience Review

It’s been seven long years since FutureSex/LoveSounds and boy does he know how to make people wait. Ventured into acting, got married to Jessica Biel and for a while we all thought that perhaps he didn’t want to come back to music.

Then in early 2012, he teased us with an “I’m ready” video.

I suppose since the album dropped this week, the question on everybody’s minds is…..is The 20/20 Experience worth the wait?

The Verdict

Let me tell you something, YES to that question is an understatement! After seven years, Justin Timberlake has finally released his third album, “The 20/20 Experience,” and it’s a brilliant piece of work that’s so unconventional and beautiful at the same time. It’s beyond an expansion of FutureSex/Lovesounds……actually you really can’t compare the two.

There are 10 tracks, which average seven minutes and similar to his previous album, they weave into one another in perfect segway! I work at a radio station and I can tell you that when you have a song that’s more than five minutes, it screams “problem” for airplay. In fact, I haven’t seen another performer like Timberlake who can make a 7 minute sound so good in our modern music era.

I’m a huge fan of Timberlake and one of the draws for me where his albums are concerned have always been transitions. It starts sexy and then flows into groovy and he just keeps that very engaging tone throughout.

We’ve heard “Suit and Tie” and “Mirrors” but this album opens with neither, instead we have “Pusher Love Girl” which is pure heaven the way he grooves and re-introduces himself as a singer. FutureSex/LoveSounds was one of the most successful albums of the last decade so how do you follow-up, simple….you turn it into a musical sequel because if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Rating: 4.5 out of 5 stars
