With 12 Flyweight World titles under his belt, Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson is widely considered one of the greatest pound-for-pound mixed martial artists of all time! In Singapore recently for the filming of The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition, we had a quick e-interview with the celebrity athlete to talk about his MMA journey and Esports.
Qn: It has been about 2 years since you moved over to ONE Championship, how has the journey been so far?
The journey has been amazing! I’ve just won the ONE Flyweight World Grand Prix Championship Belt and started filming for The Apprentice: ONE Championship Edition where I will be featured as one of the guest athletes. Next on the list for me is getting ready to fight for the ONE Flyweight World Championship belt.
Qn: Having been in so many fights, which would be your most memorable and why?
All my fights are memorable to me because every fight was a different challenge. With every fight, I strive to cement it to my legacy as one of the best to ever do it.
Qn: In your opinion, what is the most overrated move and the most underrated move in MMA?
I do not think there is an overrated move in MMA but I would say the most underrated would be the Thai Clinch.
Qn: There has been a surge of talent in the Flyweight and bantamweight divisions in the recent years e.g. Deiveson Figueiredo in the UFC and the Asakura bros in Rizin. As the OG king of the flyweights, what do you think about the future of the division?
I think the future is bright and there is talent all over the world.
Qn: What is your dream matchup and why?
Honestly I’m not a dream matchup kind of guy (I literally sat here for 15 minutes and couldn’t come up with one). I would like to think that I am ready to fight anyone that comes my way.
Qn: Being an avid gamer yourself, would moving to Esports ever be an option for you?
It depends on what part of Esports, be it broadcasting, creating content or announcing. I am very passionate about gaming and want to see the industry thrive in the near future. I will definitely be interested to be a part of Esports if the opportunity arises.
Thank you for your time and we wish you all the best for your upcoming match with Adriano “Mikinho” Moraes for the ONE Flyweight World Champion next February in Singapore.
