Happening over 3 weekends (30th 31st May,6th 7th 13th 14th June), the DBS Marina Regatta 2015 delivers exhilarating sporting action and lots of fun activities. Back for its 4th fun, this year’s DBS Marina Regatta continues to be Singapore’s biggest water sports festival as it looks to ignite the Marina Bay area once again. Set against the iconic skyline of the Marina Bay, visitors to this year’s DBS Marina Regatta got to witness top dragon boating and sailing teams battle it out to be the country’s and the region’s best.
Apart from the exhilarating sporting action in the water, this year’s DBS Marina Regatta is also packed with fun activities for everyone as the whole promontory is transformed into a giant carnival with lots of sights and sounds. One colourful highlight includes artisit creating their impressions of what the future holds for Singapore on giant murals. Live actors also bring some of these art peices to life so do remember to bring your cameras along.
Separated into different zone (Ignite The Passion, Ignite Music & Movement, Ignite The Future, Ignite The Senses, Ignite The Bay!), visitors to the Marina Bay area are spoilt for choice when it comes to trying out some extreme sports such as rock climbing, watch stage performances, try their hand at urban farming, fill their hungry stomachs and end the day with a nice movie while enjoying the cool breeze on the bay.
The DBS Marina Regatta 2015 will also saw the debute of “Paddle for Good” where the public are challenged to form teams and paddle alongside person with disabilities (PwDs). For every one kilometre paddled, DBS will donate SGD $100 to organisations that will use the funds to organise sports activities for PwDs. Donations will be matched dollar-for-dollar by the Care and Share movement led by the Community Chest. Giving back to the community is always a good thing and its heartening to see DBS do so in a fun engaging way.
The DBS Marina Regatta 2015 also sees the Cosplay return to the Marina Bay as visitors can only only catch the exciting Regatta Cosplay Cup but also meet and greet not one but two cosplay guest, Dat-Baka and Tessie. Even though competition was close, one performance stood out and Jas’ Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell truly stood out thanks to her props, the scripted scene and that ingenious matrix inspired stunt.
Cosplay fans also were in for a treat as they got to interact with the two gosplay guest, Dat-Baka and Tessie. From autographs to selfies, it definitely looked like everyone, both cosplayers and visitors to the DBS Marina Regatta 2015 enjoyed the company of the two. Dat-Baka commented that he was glad to be back in Singapore and can’t wait to pick up where he left off the last time he was here for International Cosplay Day Singapore 2014.
Overall it was an good 2 weekends spent at the DBS Marina Regatta 2015 as the place looked upgraded from last year with the better stage setup, fun activities especially that flying fox which this writer was tempted to just dump all responsibilities on his team and go try it out.
Not forgetting also the exciting action from the various teams taking part in the dragon boat races where what seperates top teams can be as little as seconds. The team enjoyed ourselves again this year and we look forward to the next one!
