This is usually 3rd in line after the latest movie replicas from Hot Toys are featured in San Diego Comic Con and Anicom Hong Kong but this year it seemed extra special as Hot Toys rolled out their intentions for a massive Star Wars collaboration and in good time as well with Star Wars Episode VII scheduled for a Dec 18 2015 release. Resident toy collector Elliott Danker takes us through this year’s display and why he’s excited.
Once you enter STGCC you are immediately greeted with these statues of famous Star Wars characters and you get that sense of how this franchise is going to make it’s return in a big way. But go around the corners and Hot Toys’ trademark image still remains.
It’s ever popular Iron Man line showcases a brand new hall of armour and we’re lucky this year because we not only get the same exclusives as SDCC and Anicom but we have the addition of the Iron Man Mark 36 Peacemaker armour which is only available at STGCC 2014.
Now that’s huge for us because it does make us feel quite special with the toy collectors culture in Singapore growing quite strongly in recent years.
Back to the Future is another beautiful piece on display with Marty McFly and and Delorean in all it’s glory. The Delorean was actually just released for pre-order just a few days before the convention.
The Avengers is another that constantly gets an update during each convention. While the line has been at 3 conventions in a row, this time around they’ve added a few Chitauri, which were released recently and created a whole new battle scene. More ideas for me to toy with on my display.
And last but not least Spider-Man is worth a mention. Considering that’s quite a bit of a Spider-Man theme this STGCC, it was only natural that Hot Toys featured it’s Amazing Spider-Man line which not only had Peter Parker and Spider-Man figures but also Electro and a prototype of the Rhino armour.
Other figures on display included The Guardians of the Galaxy, Robocop, Maleficent, Alien, Captain America The Winter Soldier, Predator, The Dark Knight and not forgetting the G1 Optimus Prime Starscream version.
But really the reason why I’m excited is because it’s been a while since I’ve chased an exclusive and so I’m really happy that I was able to get my hands on a Peacemaker thanks to a buddy who helped me put in an extra bid during the blind draw.
