Global Smurfs Day

Those little blue and white creatures by Belgian cartoonist Peyo are back on the big screen this July and to celebrate the birthday of Peyo, an event called Global Smurfs Day was held all over the world.

And in addition to celebrating Peyo's birthday, there will be an attempt to break the Guinness World Record Title for the largest gathering of people dressed as Smurfs within a 24 hour period at venues all over the world.

From phototakings all around the world to booths offering blue makeup for even kids, everyone looked like they definitely enjoyed themselves as Smurf fever hit the globe.

And if that is not enough, the characteristically white-washed Spanish village of Juzcar has been painted blue to mark the occasion, Taiwan's famous Red House will be transformed into a Blue House and filled with Smurfs plus Smurf figurines will go on display in Paris, Reykjavik, Bogota, Geneva and Zurich.

I guess you could say Peyo's little blue and white creations still live the in hearts of many around the world!
