16 members of the Nagoya-based girl idol J-pop group, SKE48, a sister group of AKB48 were in town on 27 July for a 1 show performance. Prior to their concert at *SCAPE Warehouse, the members took time off to meet and greet their fans at the AKB48 cafe as well as to take a stroll down Orchard Road to give out flyers.
POPCulture online spoke to members Rina, Rikako and Shiori as we tried to get to know the group a little.
POPCulture Online: Tell us more about SKE48?
SKE48: Well we are the sister group of AKB48 and it was established 3 years ago. We've got a theatre in Nagoya city, Japan and we have 57 members in total which are divided in 3 teams.
POPCulture Online: What are your favorite kinds of music?
Rina: I like JPOP groups like Morning Musume.
Rikako: For me I prefer listening to Disney soundtracks.
Shiori: I'm more into KPOP like SDSN Girls Generation and After School.
POPCulture Online: Tells us more about yourselves? Like what are your hobbies or what you do in your free time?
Rina: I'm very much into skincare so I spend a lot of my free time learning about cosmetics and make up.
Rikako: I love movies especially spy movies. My favorite spy movie is Mr and Mrs Smith staring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
Shiori: Haha i'm simple just give me Korean Drama and i'm happy.
POPCulture Online: How would you describe your personal experience or growth being a part of SKE48 so far?
Rina: I used to be very shy and very poor at speaking in public. In the past all i do is nod during public apearances. Now my attitude has changed and I do it for the people, to show my feelings and to speak more.
Rikako: I've become a person who hates losing. There are so many members in SKE48 so it's very competitive. I find myself now more pro active to show myself and stand out.
Shiori: I've learnt the art of greetings which has helped my in my personal growth and social graces as well as ettiqutte. This development is not just for me as an artiste but as an individual as well.
