Fast & Furious 6 Review

I have followed every single one of the movies from the Fast franchise. I never really liked part 2, part 3 was cool but I didn’t like the lead and I was over the moon when the original cast returned for part 4, 5 and now 6 (part 7 starts filming this August and will be released July 2014).

It’s insane I know, this movie was never meant to make sense. It’s so ridiculous that it’s soooooooo good! Really you have to go watch this film!

The Plot

After the events of Fast Five, professional criminal Dominic Toretto and his crew are wealthy, but their criminal records prevent them from returning to their home country.

Following his attempts to apprehend them, Diplomatic Security Service (DSS) agent Luke Hobbs offers the crew a deal; he will give them all full pardons for their crimes if they help him take down a lethally skilled mercenary organization led by a criminal mastermind and his ruthless second-in-command, Dominic’s thought-dead lover Letty Ortiz

The movie stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Luke Evans, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot and Jordana Brewster.

The Verdict

You know this one…..right from the start I’m gonna say leave your brains at the door and enjoy the ride!! Seriously that’s the only way to enjoy this movie.

The old crew is back and this movie pretty much picks off where part 5 left off so if you haven’t been following the franchise you don’t have a lot to worry about. Now I think they discovered some magic here with bringing the old cast back, the screen time is shared nicely among all members without either of them trying to outdo one another and you see that sense of familiarity they have with one another.

I’d say you would believe that these guys actually hang out when they are not working. The only “deep” element they try and infuse into the film is Domenic Torreto’s family values. He believes that his crew is his family and they should always stand by each other. Hence with the return of Letty (Michelle Rodriguez), he believes that while she’s on the wrong side of things, they cannot turn their back on her and must help save her.

I think Justin Lin really should be commended on adding freshness to this franchise especially after the disaster that was 2 Fast 2 Furious. He’s not afraid that it’s silly and stuck to the most important appeal about this movie, that is this is a movie that guys or car enthusiasts would love because it’s like watching these actors play out their fantasies.

Think about it, we all wish we could shift gears that way and look super cool and get involved in fights and walk out of fires like a pure action hero.

In Fast 5 we saw The Rock take on Diesel Power, now imagine The Rock teaming up with Diesel Power in the ultimate tag team match up of the century. Got your attention yet?

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

The truth is none of it makes any sense, except within the high-octane logic of blowing stuff up onscreen. And in my humble opinion, that alone can sometimes be entertainment enough!
