F1 Drivers Roll Into Town

It was an action packed weekend at the end of September as Singapore hosted it’s fifth Singapore Grand Prix. One of the highlights for many fans is a chance to get up close and personal with their favourite drivers.

Elliott Danker had the chance to do just that in this document of the events leading up to the Singapore Grand Prix

As part of Johnnie Walker’s Join the Pact campaign, Hamilton took to the tarmac in a McLaren MP4-12c and blazed his signature into the ground to symbolise his commitment to never drink and drive. This was the first time in the world that the stunt was performed for a live audience.

Demonstrating the importance of always staying in control behind the wheel, the World’s Most Powerful Signature was first performed by Jenson Button and Mika Häkkinen for a Johnnie Walker viral video that has since been viewed by over 230,000 people around the world.

Johnnie Walker also took the opportunity to pay tribute to Singapore’s own racing heritage, honouring local racing legend and 1967 Singapore Grand Prix champion Rodney Seow. Lewis Hamilton presented Rodney Seow with a specially customised Johnnie Walker race helmet in recognition of his invaluable contributions to Singapore’s racing heritage and his own incredible journey of personal progress.

The event also gave guests an opportunity to network and view a fashion show featuring Red Bull Racing apparel, Red Bull Racing Eyewear, Casio Edifice and Baby G watches, Pepe Jeans as well as Geox shoes.

Mark Webber also made a surprise appearance at the event much to the delight of the crowd! He flew into Singapore a day earlier just for this event as he took some questions from the crowd and even helped to give out the prize to the top time that was clocked on the simulator that evening.

Red Bull Racing Team Principal Christian Horner was at the paddocks preparing for raceday and the media had the opportunity to sit down and have an informal chat with him. His down to earth nature made it so easy for the interview and he showed his passion for the Singapore Grand Prix which incidentally was renewed for another 5 years during the F1 weekend.

Qantas Ambassador Mark Webber took time off to take on Power 98FM DJ Emily Teng and Singaporean Triathlete Willie Loo in the Qantas Mark Webber Fitness Face Off.

The event also marked the announcement of The Mark Webber Tasmania Challenge
