EOY 2011 Coverage

In its 13th year running, the event known as EOY has definitely come a long way from its humble beginnings in a smaller venue of meeting rooms to one that uses The Republic Cultural Centre (Theatre) today. Add in a special guest from overseas, stage performances by local talents, lolita and cosplay runways and not forgetting the Meido Ambassadors and you have a very unique event that is worth checking out.

From as early as 9am, a queue can be seen forming outside the event doors with both cosplayers and event goers eagerly waiting to go in. And by 11am, you can see the crowd forming inside as cosplayers find their spots to pose for the cameras while others take their time to browse through the goodies found at the various booths in the event venue.

Another sight that greet the visitors to the events are the special Meido Ambassadors for EOY this year. In their cute outfits and warm smiles, these charming ladies help add that little personal touch to the event.

But of course the main highlight of the day was the stage event where local budding talents are given a chance to perform on stage. With over 4 hours of performances including 2 sets by guest artist Hitomi, it is no wonder even before the doors open at 1pm, there was already a huge queue outside the theatre.

While it did take a while for the atmosphere to set in at first, by mid afternoon you can feel the energy of the place slowly build up especially with performances by Sangriento, Tenshii & Sabbie (just to name a few) which really got the crowd going.

Not forgetting also the two runway showcases which added that “glam” to the whole stage event. The Lolita Fashion Runway gave event goers a glimsp into the world of lolita fashion while the Cosplay Runway with EOY 2011 Cosplay Ambassador Esther reminded everyone of EOY’s cosplay roots.
