Anime, games and manga lovers are in for a treat as Doujin Market returns in April with two exciting days of fan art goodness! Curated by Neo Tokyo Project (NTP), Collateral Damage Studios (CDS) and Daiyaku, Doujin Market (or ‘Doujima’ for short) is an annual celebration of derivative content created by local youth artists and art groups.
This year’s celebration brings together more than 30 exhibitors from Singapore and around the region, showcasing more than 150 works inspired by Japanese pop-culture. “In Japanese, ‘Doujin’ describes a group of individuals who bond over a particular hobby. Through Doujima, we hope to spark community collaboration and to empower youths who hope to pursue a career in illustration with a platform to showcase their work,” said Mr. Jason Koh, account director of Neo Tokyo Project.
The event will also herald the launch of Extravaganza 2015, an annual regional art competition jointly organized by CDS, NUS Comics and Animation Society (NUSCAS) and NTU Visual Arts Society (NTUVAS). To promote greater interest in the visual arts, Doujima will play host to a series of workshops about world
building and design fundamentals.
Aspiring artists can also look forward to a social media marketing workshop geared towards helping them strengthen their digital portfolios as well as a workshop on creating acrylic charms and trinkets. These workshops will be conducted in the Situation Room in *SCAPE’s Hubquarters, and will be open to the public.
Doujima 2015 will take place at *SCAPE, in The Treetop (L5) on 25-26 April. Doors open from 11 am to 6 pm. Admission is FREE.
