Dota 2 Esports Team Evil Geniuses (EG) comes to town!

Fan meet-and-greets are quite a common thing when big names come to town. Be it your pop artists, movie stars or sports teams, you can be sure that these events will be well attended. Yet, bring up names from the Esports arena and most people would still give a sceptical look. But for the fans who were up early to queue for the fan meet-and-greet session with Team Evil Geniuses, it was a once in a lifetime chance to meet their Dota 2 heroes up close and personal.

The venue at *SCAPE The Treetop L5 was packed with eager fans with their Team Razer bangers in action, welcoming Bulba (Sam Sosale), Arteezy (Artour Babaev), s4 (Gustav Magnusson) and SumaiL (Syed Sumail Hassan) from Team Evil Geniuses. The session started off with questions from host Mohan, a familiar face in the local Esports circle, to get both parties warmed up. Although it was evident that the fans were more than happy to just be in the same room with Team EG.

The fans also got a chance to ask questions and while there were moments where you wonder if the question was a potshot or a genuine question like “When will Team EG get higher than 3rd?”, the rest of the questions were rather mild, thankfully.

* Mild as compared to what football managers get at post-match when the team loses

Fans also got a chance to win some sweet Razer loot with quizzes which tested how well they knew Team EG and the game itself.

Ending off the session was an autograph session where fans who queued up early got to meet Team EG to sign their jerseys, mouse pads and other mementos.

While Esports still has a long way to go before making it to mainstream here in Singapore, having a big brand like Razer bring in Team EG is a good start. Hopefully we will get to see more of such things in the future and maybe this writer would consider putting my Razer Naga aside from my MMORPGs, find my DeathAdder and install Dota 2.
