You heard the Song, you saw the video, yes that one that even got Justin Bieber tweeting about has come to Singapore! Yes that viral earworm PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen) and its creator Pikotaro or rather Japanese comedian Daimaou Kosaka (his real name), was in town over the Anime Festival Asia Singapore weekend as a guest of WAKUWAKU JAPAN.
Sharing with members of the media during his press conference, he was glad to be in Singapore to see his fans as they were looking forward to meeting him with some even tweeting him to come here. Thus when WAKUWAKU JAPAN invited him to Singapore, he accepted it to make the wishes of fans come true.
As a big believer of sharing the Japanese popular culture with everyone, he shared that he is very happy that WAKUWAKU JAPAN is sharing his video on their channel. Just for his fans coming to AFASG 2016 to see him, he has also prepared a special long version of PPAP for everyone present.
Event goers to AFASG 2016 were then treated to a live performance of long version of his hit single PPAP (Pen-Pineapple-Apple-Pen) on the AKIBA Stage where the crowd stretched all the way to the back. Clearly he has a large following here in Singapore as well, not to mentioned the fan who cosplayed as him. Five lucky fans were also invited onto the stage for a special meet and greet session with Pikotaro.
They not only got to meet and Pikotaro but also had a group photo with the man himself. Of course the crowd wouldn’t let him go with just one performance of PPAP so with chants of ankooru (encore in Japanese), Pikotaro performed the long version of PPAP one more time.
Ending off the session with a special message for all fans present (He says not to spread on Twitter so we will comply and just post it here on the web and not Twitter), there will be something new from him come 2017. A great way to end off the Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2016 for the event goers if you ask me so thank you WAKUWAKU JAPAN and everyone else involved for making it happen!
