Distant Worlds Celebrates 30 Years of FINAL FANTASY and its Music in Singapore

2017 marks the 30th anniversary of FINAL FANTASY and its music. Distant Worlds: music from FINAL FANTASY symphony concert world tour has announced its latest stop in Singapore for a new series of orchestral concerts: FINAL FANTASY 30th Anniversary – JIRITSUNobuo Uematsu, composer of the famous video game series FINAL FANTASY, will make a guest appearance at the Singapore concert, which is presented by Avex Asia. The one-night only concert will be held at the Star Theatre on 21 October 2017. 

The global multimedia concert phenomenon, featuring the music of FINAL FANTASY, combines exclusive HD video content from legendary game developers SQUARE ENIX, with a live symphony orchestra performance. Conducted by Grammy award-winning conductor Arnie Roth, fans can look forward to a diverse and constantly expanding repertoire of classic FINAL FANTASY music from throughout the thirty year history of the game series. The Metropolitan Festival Orchestra, Singapore’s only fully-independent professional symphony orchestra, will be playing the music from all across the FINAL FANTASY series, including FINAL FANTASY XV, with new arrangements especially for the 30th Anniversary series. Distant Worlds music from FINAL FANTASY Singapore

Distant Worlds has been a sold-out success in Singapore, seen by almost 10,000 audience members from its debut concerts in 2009 to its latest concert in 2016. This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Distant Worlds concert series, and the special concert tour begins this July in Australia and continuing in North America, Europe, and Asia. To date, Singapore is the only stop announced for Southeast Asia.

About Composer Nobuo Uematsu

Nobuo Uematsu is one of the most celebrated composers in the video game field. He has achieved global recognition for his work on the FINAL FANTASY series that has been performed by world-class orchestras around the world. Nobuo Uematsu has been recognized as a major contributor in the increasing appreciation and awareness of video game music. A prime example is the “FINAL FANTASY VIII” theme song, “Eyes on Me,” composed and produced by him. His song featured Hong Kong pop star Faye Wong and sold a record 400,000 copies.  It also won “Song of the Year (Western Music)” at the 14th Annual Japan Gold Disc Awards in 1999, which was the first time in history that music from a video game had attained this illustrious honor. The music from the game series has grown to such notoriety, Nobuo Uematsu was named as one of the “Innovators” in Time Magazine’s “Time 100:  the Next Wave Music ” feature.

Music Director Arnie Roth is a Grammy-winning artist known for his work with performers including Il Divo, Diana Ross, Jewel, The Irish Tenors, Charlotte Church, Peter Cetera, and Dennis DeYoung.  Roth has conducted the London Symphony Orchestra, the National Symphony, the Atlanta Symphony, the Hollywood Bowl Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the Dallas Symphony, the Houston Symphony, the BBC Symphony, the Czech National Philharmonic Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the San Diego Symphony, the Winnipeg Symphony, the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago, the Detroit Symphony, the Ravinia Festival Orchestra, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, the Tokyo Philharmonic and the Sydney Symphony.

About the Metropolitan Festival Orchestra

The Metropolitan Festival Orchestra (MFO) is Singapore’s only fully-independent professional symphony orchestra.
