The Dark Tower follows the story of a gunslinger called Roland Deschain, played by Idris Elba, and his duty to protect the Dark Tower. The Dark Tower is a mythical structure that supports every reality in the universe. When an 11-year-old boy stumbles into Mid-World, he must help Roland reach the Dark Tower and protect the universe from extinction. However this is made increasingly difficult due to the various creatures in Mid-World, as well as Roland’s nemesis Walter O’Dim, a.k.a the Man in Black (Matthew McConaughey).
For starters it looks very cool and Matthew McConaughey is very scary as the villain in this film. He’s pretty much the devil here and in my opinion his acting is what saved the film.
Women will love Idris Elba and he’s got that stone cool sort of solidarity. There’s a lot of questions about where the Gunslingers are from and what they are really. I thought that it would have been great to have more of an origin story for him but it is a Stephen King adaptation after all.
Unfortunately there’s a bit more bad than good but I only say that because the potential of this film and possible film franchise is just not fulfilled.
There’s a lack of origin story meaning you feel like you’re trying to catch up and understand what’s happening like you entered the cinema late and missed the first 5 minutes.
Rating: 2.5 out of 5 Stars
It’s a bit of an unfulfilled promise but if you’ve got some time to kill, go watch it for Matthew McConaughey.
