Justice League opens this month and it will finally see the DCEU come together. With only a handful of solo movies before this team up, here’s everything you need to know before the movie opens on 16 Nov.
Joss Whedon was brought on to finish “Justice League” after original director Zack Snyder resigned to deal with a family emergency. We don’t know yet what changes Whedon made, except that he reduced the movie’s running time from 170 minutes to 121 minutes.
In the movie, the team will come together in order to stop an invasion attempt from the war-mongering planet Apokolips.
That invasion will be led by Apokolips’s fearsome general, Steppenwolf, who will played in motion-capture by Game of Thrones actor Ciaran Hinds.
Steppenwolf will have an army of soldiers in the form of the “Parademons,” who were the winged creatures we met in the “Knightmare” dream sequence of Batman v Superman.
In Justice League, Steppenwolf seems to be after The Mother Boxes, living computers that were developed by ‘The New Gods’ of Apokolips and its rival, New Genesis.
We already know from DCEU films and merchandise that there were three Mother Boxes hidden on Earth, in ancient times.
Plenty of questions remain over the return of Superman and in what capacity he will return in. Fans are clamoring for Henry Cavil to make his return in the black suit but so far there has been no indication and he’s only featured in a dream sequence in the trailer.
Danny Elfman’s 1989 Batman score makes a return. If you have purchased the soundtrack to the movie, you will find that you don’t get the full version of the theme but it does present itself in many parts across the score, very much like how the John Williams Superman theme is used in this movie.
There’s also the ongoing rumour of a Green Lantern or two. First there was suspicion of a seventh Justice League member, as a result of an early Aquaman image tagline. Then there was a supposed leak of the Justice League soundtrack, featuring a song title referencing seven heroes.
The second Justice League film was originally scheduled for 2019. Now it’s been delayed, with the Batman solo movie taking its place.
