So Nikon Singapore recently invited POPCultureOnline to be an artist for a day, learning how to create our very own latte art from professional barristers and also arming ourselves with cool tips and tricks on getting our next coffee cup shot perfect during our next coffee hangout.
Hey, that sound truly interesting and not to mention, lots of fun as Ken Koh and me decided that we should really check it out. It’s really not often that Nikon Singapore actually invite anyone to swing by and “LIM KOPI” with them. And so we thought that this is an event not to be missed.
This private event was held at Oriole Coffee Roasters, which I can attest to their coffees is smoothing to our throat. Armed with my trusty camera and a healthy appetite for coffees, we head onward to the location without actually having much ideas of what we would be expecting in time to come. With the event running in high gear, everyone enjoying the company of each other while slipping away at our coffee, we were then introduced by the friendly Nikon specialist the highlight of the event…
A new range of lineup for the Nikon COOLPIX cameras just in time for Spring! Hey, I thought if clothing can have season launch, why not cameras?
What went on for the next 20mins or so was just amazing news, functions and features from the new line of digital camera that not only rise our eyebrow, it even set our jaw dropping to the table which we were seated by, if not lower. All the new features and functions have so much Wow factors that we even forgot to drink our coffee…..
The idea of just using smart-phone for picture taking is so widely common that no one is actually willing to bring their camera along with them nowadays. But we do have to admit that most of our current smart-phone just doesn’t cut the cake when talking about really high photo quality. And what Nikon did was to make the new range of COOLPIX do what most smart-phone camera can do while still offering cutting edge photography quality.
Wifi ability? Check!
Beautifying enhancements? Check!
Vibration Reduction to reduce blur photos? Check!
Able to use external battery pack to charge your camera? Check!!
Making phone call? Sadly not yet…
So let’s head on to the highlight of this event. Out of the numbers of new camera introduced, we had our eyes and interested set on 3 of the models, namely the Nikon COOLPIX P340, the Nikon COOLPIX AW120 and the amazing Nikon COOLPIX P600.
The Nikon COOLPIX P340 is a powerful 12-megapixel compact camera which offers a 5x zoom and using the Dynamic Fine Zoom that increase the zoom range to twice the amount which is 10x before utilizing the digital zoom, which we shun away from using since it degrade the quality of the photos.
And with the 5-axis Vibration Reduction (VR), you are guaranty of a clear photo whenever you depress the shutter button. The build-in neutral density (ND) filter works flawlessly with it f/1.8 aperture to enables use of slower shutter speeds even in bright situations.
The Nikon COOLPIX AW120, an all-weather performer like the G-Shock of digital camera It can withstand the most severe outdoor situations with waterproofing to a depth of 18m, shock-proofing that can withstand falls up to approximately 2m, and cold-proofing to about -10 degree. Loaded with GPS and also GLONASS supported, location information that were once difficult to measure as buildings can now be accurately acquired in a short time.
The Nikon COOLPIX AW120 also has a build-in world map with an Action Map Control function that enables the enlargement and reduction of the map by shaking the camera. Not forgetting the Pre-autofocus function which automatically autofocus when it detects camera movement, enabling the users to easily capture subject at decisive moments, delivering desired result.
All in all if you are an adventurer looking for a sturdy camera, the Nikon COOLPIX AW120 has got you all covered.
And now the amazing beast of the highlights….. The Nikon COOLPIX P600!
First of all, it has a 60x zoom! And that is equivalent to 1440mm for DSLR users. With the Dynamic Fine Zoom which boost the zoom range to 120x (2880mm), this little baby can reach places that DSLR users can only dream off. Unless of course you are willing to pay tens of thousands of dollars for a long zoom lens to do that.
The P600 features a 16.1-megapixel backside-illuminated (BSI) CMOS sensor and uses high-performance NIKKOR lens consists of 16 elements in 11 group with four ED glass elements and one Super ED glass element. That’s pretty close to what a DSLR lens is like. The Moon modes and Bird-watching modes are new scene modes that automatically set optimal aperture and shutter speed, making handheld shooting of wild birds or the moon easy.
In a nutshell, the new cameras that Nikon is launching has had us squirming around in our seat, trying our best to hold ourselves back from rushing to grab hold of them and play away till our heart content.
There is also a new Nikon apps that is available for both the iOS and the Android operating system which allows you to control the shutter of the camera remotely.
Oh and not forgetting the coffee art, being so engrossed with the new cameras, I sort of failed at the coffee art while Ken’s attempt at a heart shaped ended up looking more like a small onion instead. I guess the both of us should just stick to the digital arts and take photos and not venture into coffee art.
