clicknetwork.tv announces the launch of Singapore’s first-ever online dating show. Premiering on 4 June 2013, the nine-webisode dating series, entitled It’s a Date!, will see male and female contestants go through different activities in each episode, to test their chemistry and compatibility. New episodes will be released every Tuesday at 10pm on www.clicknetwork.tv/itsadate.
Hosted by local comedian and FLY Entertainment Artiste, Chua Enlai, It’s a Date! will also mark his first stint as a host for an Internet reality show. Enlai is widely known for his roles in The Noose, a popular Singapore comedy TV series.
Developing It’s a Date!
Founder of clicknetwork.tv, Ms Gillian Tan, collaborates with local comedian, Chua Enlai, to launch Singapore’s first ever online reality dating show, It’s a Date!
It’s a Date! received support from Social Development Network (SDN) and SDNTrust accredited dating agencies, who have contributed ideas for the show. Viewers can look forward to expert insights, advice and tips from dating consultants who appear as guests in some episodes.
“Reality dating shows have been around for ages, so when we were brainstorming ideas for this, we wanted to do something different and more relatable. We worked with the agencies accredited under the SDNTrust accreditation framework, and learnt that many of them have been organising fun and exciting activities for singles. We roped them in during pre-production and managed to tap on many of their ideas for It’s a Date! I’m proud and excited to launch this new dating show, and I’m sure it’ll be something refreshing and entertaining for our viewers,” said Gillian Tan, founder of clicknetwork.tv.
Finding a Date
Unlike other dating shows, which typically feature a group of bachelors or bachelorettes competing to win the heart of one eligible single, It’s a Date! will carry a unique dating show format. An equal set of contestants will go through different activities, and try to find an ideal date.
The format of It’s a Date! is as follows:
- Three single girls meet three single guys in week 1. They go through different challenges together in every episode to get to know each other better;
- At the end of three weeks, everyone will pick a date. If there’s a mutual match between the guy and girl, they are deemed as a “success couple” and will leave the show;
- The girls who didn’t have a match will stay on, and if there’s a vacant spot, it will be filled by a new girl; and
- The guys will be replaced with a new batch of guys regardless of whether they found matches or not.

“It was interesting going through the activities and games on It’s a Date!, as it really helped to bring out the personalities of the contestants and gave us many opportunities to interact with one another. From there, I was able to see if I am compatible with any of the girls. We all had a lot of fun on set. Even though we did not actually go on one-on-one dates in the “usual” coffee-and-a-movie sort of way, we were still able to get to know one another better. I’m happy that I’ve made some friends through the show!” said Derek Joseph Sun, 28 years old, contestant of It’s a Date!
“Hosting a reality dating show was a fresh experience for me. I was excited to take on this role with clicknetwork.tv. At times, I felt as if I was playing cupid as well, as I found myself sometimes having to give the contestants advice on how to impress the other party,” said Enlai, host of It’s a Date!
No stranger to dating shows, Munkysuperstar Pictures Pte Ltd (clicknetwork.tv’s parent company) produced Singapore’s first-ever English reality dating show, “Eye for a Guy” Seasons 1 and 2 in 2004 and 2005. The company also produced a dating game show for Coke Light, called “A Light Affair” in 2006.
