This November, C3 Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2018 (#C3AFASG18) returns to celebrate ten years of bringing only the best in Japanese popular culture to the region. We take a look at what’s in stored for visitors and share five reasons to get excited about South East Asia’s biggest and most prestigious Japanese Pop Culture event.
Showcasing the Latest Anime
Anime fans will be in for a treat at #C3AFASG18 as the event will be featuring the latest and hottest anime including A Certain Magical Index III, Love Live! Sunshine!! and Gundam Build Divers. There will also be a meet and greet session with Atsushi Abe who voiced Toma Kamijo in the “A Certain Magical Index” and “A Certain Scientific Railgun” and Minami Tanaka who voiced Mary Saotome from Kakegurui XX.
The event will be screening the Asian premiere of the first episode of the highly-anticipated Mob Psycho 100 II, ahead of its official debut in January 2019. Fans can also catch the first 23 minutes of the Mobile Suit Gundam NT (Narrative) movie which hits Japanese theaters 30th Nov 2018 at the event.
Three nights of Anisong
A staple at every event so far since the first one, there have been 120 hours played so far and this year’s concert will see both returning and new artist take to the stage on all 3 nights of #C3AFASG18. With first timers such as Erii Yamazaki and YURiKA to returning names such as Real Akiba Boyz, May’n, angela and GARNiDELiA, you can be sure it will be an exciting three nights of anime music.
All that Merchandise
Wallets beware as #C3AFASG18 continues the trend of being a trap for those who dare tread the grounds of the many merchandise booths. From the Toy Coin booth selling Dofie, Figurines and Nendoroids to the MUSE booth selling Sword Art Online umbrellas and raincoats, there will always be temptations as your walk around the merchandise booth. Be warned though for those looking to get merchandise at the event to be prepared for long queues as seen from previous years.
World Cosplay Summit 2019 Singapore Preliminaries
It doesn’t get any bigger than the World Cosplay Summit which sees international teams from around the world showcase their cosplay talents. While there were some hiccups last year which thankfully still saw a Singaporean team sent over, this year we have four teams taking part in the Preliminaries. All eight cosplayers forming the four teams are no stranger to the local cosplay community and it will be exciting to see what they have in stored at #C3AFASG18.
Food Glorious Japanese Food
#C3AFASG18 sees the return of a food section and so far popular names such as Renga-ya with their Hokkaido Yakiniku Don, SAMURICE with their Sushi and IPPUDO EXPRESS with their Ramen selection, just to name a few. While Suntec does have it fair share of good food especially Japanese ones, the event is over the weekends which means Suntec will be crowded so why the hassle of looking for food outside the event halls when there is good food right inside.
A Decade of Anime and Japanese Popular Culture
“10 years ago, Anime Festival started as a dream among my team to create a professionally-run Anime and Japanese Popular Culture event that fans, including myself, will truly enjoy and love. The festival has grown from having 25,000 attendees in year one in 2 halls in Singapore, to 100,000 attendees last year in Singapore alone. Today, we continue to be customer-focused. We are proud to be the definitive J-pop event that connects our customers with the latest most sought-after contents direct from Japan, and we’ve been delivering this for the last 10 years across Asia,”
– Shawn Chin, C3 AFA’s Organiser and SOZO’s Managing Director.
