The Avengers @ NY Comic Con

At the sixth annual New york Comic con at the Javits Center in Midtown Manhattan, select cast members of the upcoming Avengers movie were present in a high profile panel focused on the highly anticipated feature film by Marvel.

Kevin Feige (Producer), Chris Evans (Captain America), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Clark Gregg (Agent Coulson) and Cobie Smulders (Agent Hill) were present.

The Joss Whedon directed movie follows Nick Fury, director of the international peacekeeping agency S.H.I.E.L.D., as he assembles a team of superheroes to help save the world from annihilation.

Tom Hiddleston was last seen in this year’s Thor where it is show that his character Loki is now trapped on earth. Footage from the trailer hints that the storyline for The Avengers picks up from the end credits scene of Thor.

Clark Gregg as Agent Phil Coulsen, a character first seen in Iron Man has gone on to appear in other Marvel movies like Iron Man 2 as well as Thor. His character has also been included in the later additions of Marvel comics as well. Next to him is Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill, a significant character who eventually becomes Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the comics. Her character makes her first movie appearance in The Avengers.

The First Avenger needs no introduction. Chris Evans reprises his role in The Avengers as Captain America where his character’s dealing with the modern world will be part of the plot.

Mark Ruffalo is the third actor of the current generation of Marvel Movies to play Dr Bruce Banner aka The Hulk. Fans around the world have so far called this the best casting of the character and are eagerly awaiting to see his portrayal on the big screen.

Marvel’s The Avengers stars Robert Downey, Jr. as Tony Stark / Iron Man, Chris Evans as Steve Rogers / Captain America, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner / Hulk, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton / Hawkeye, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Tom Hiddleston as Loki and Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill.

Marvel’s The Avengers is set to open in cinemas May 2012.
