A brand whose humble beginnings started in 1962, producing stereo phono cartridge to the present day products that is known for its excellent professional and consumer standards, Audio-Technica has definitely come a long way.
To celebrate its 50th anniversary here in Singapore, a celebration dinner was held at the Capella Sentosa with POPCulture Online being invited as one of its media guests. Co-Founder and Photographer Kenneth Wong reports (mostly from his seat due to the very good food) from the event.
Upon reaching the ballroom foyer, guest to the event are greeted by the many Audio-Technica products on display for guests to take a look at.
One of the products that caught the eye of many was the AT4050 URUSHI, which is a limited model for Audio-Technica 50 Anniversary celebrations. With its Kaga Urushi coating and drawing, the AT4050 URUSHI represents a fully expression of Japanese traditional art with state-of-the art technologies on the inside.
The dinner itself was held in the Capella Sentosa ballroom and which is only fitting as the grandeur of the ballroom matches the milestone of 50 years in the audio business.
Opening the joyous occasion is a performance by Taiko drummers whose energy and smile helped start the mood off.
President of Audio-Technica, Mr Matsushita, son of the founder of Audio-Technica gave an opening speech. In his speech, he reminded everyone about the humble beginnings of the company and how through the years, Audio-Technica has ride the waves of changes in the audio industry and adapted well to be the established brand it is today.
Managing Director of Audio-Technica South East Asia, Mr Vincent Chan was next on stage to thank everyone who has worked with Audio-Technica in this side of the world and expressed his commitment to continue to carry out the good works that the company has done so far.
The main attraction of the night was a product fashion show of the new Audio-Technica products specially produced to celebrate it’s 50th Anniversary. What made this presentation really special was the models moving around the ballroom to give invited guests a close up look of the products.
While I did mention that this was an unconventional way of doing it and wondered if it will work, thinking back now, it certainly did make it special as invited guests were able to take a closer look at the models while of course still enjoying the good food!
The joyous occasion ended off with a splendid performance by local Almost-Malay Acappella Group Juz-B. Probably one of the most popular and well-known band coming out from Channel U’s Superband Competition, Juz-B’s niche is in the fact they can sing Chinese songs as well and hearing them perform “Ching Fei Te Yi” from the popular mandarin series Meteor Garden was a treat, especially for guests from overseas.
We at POPCulture Online would like to take this time to once again congratulate Audio-Technica on its 50th Anniversary and we look forward to seeing many more years and great products on the company.
