It’s been 10 years since Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy and now finally we have Anchorman 2: The legend continues. Where does this film pick up from? and can it possibly be as funny as the first?
Well I for one feel that Will Ferrell has been getting rather irritating in terms of his brand of comedy but one of his most memorable performances has to be that of Ron Burgundy. Perhaps a return to the old formula might just do it for him!
With the 70’s behind him, San Diego’s top rated newsman, Ron Burgundy (Will Ferrell), returns to the news desk in “Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues.”
Also back for more are Ron’s co-anchor and wife, Veronica Corningstone (Christina Applegate), weather man Brick Tamland (Steve Carell), man on the street Brian Fantana (Paul Rudd) and sports guy Champ Kind (David Koechner) – All of whom won’t make it easy to stay classy…while taking the nation’s first 24-hour news channel by storm.
I’m gonna be straight with you! I loved it and not in the way you’d expect. You see, this is a stupid show! It makes no sense what so ever! The plot doesn’t make sense, the characters are just plain silly and well it’s a disaster all round! BUT that’s the point!
Leave your brain at home and go watch this film. It doesn’t make sense and that’s the whole fun about it. Just indulging in the ridiculousness of Will Ferrel is enough. And really it isn’t all about him, I actually enjoyed the performance of James Marsden who plays Jack Lime, the superstar reporter.
I’ve always thought that Marsden was a better comedian than action or drama actor and again he proves us right. He certainly made the most of the role and the rivalry between him and Ferrell was quite entertaining.
Is it as good as the first one, no. But if you think about it, Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy was released in 2004, that’s 10 years ago. So I guess it doesn’t really matter since so much time as already passed. You could pretty much use this film for a bit of a nostalgic feeling.
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
It’s just as uneven and loosely structured as the first Anchorman but I suppose that’s what makes it work. It has done pretty well at the box office making over $160 million so far.
Do pay close attention to one of the final scenes where lots of huge Hollywood actors make cameo appearances.
Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues opens in Cinemas 19 Feb 2014
