Forest burnt, ashes blew and the heavens wept… but the show must go on. Our fearless Creative Director braved through the haze (in the very Unhealthy Range) this year with special guest Ms Jojo Lai, to this year’s Halloween Horror Nights 5 where EVIL will be seeking revenge once again at Universal Studios Singapore.
So expect a lighthearted “walkthrough” guide this year with reduced puns but double the annoyance. So without further ado let’s get this “tour de HHN5” article started!
I’m never alone in my escapade of horror-seeking, with other fellow media seniors and friends from all over Asia Pacific. (Meanwhile, Spot the Cookie Monster)
We were ushered into Universal Studios Singapore, in front of a GIANT COOKIE … (I was hungry!)
This year’s theme is about the blood moon… It’s a Moon. A very well fabricated one indeed. Got our groups sorted out, donned our ponchos and onwards we go!
Evil has come upon us! Darkness has descended! Experience the horrifying aftermath of the Blood Moon, unleashed across 4 haunted houses and 3 scare zones at the region’s premier Halloween event.
Our first stop is the HELL HOUSE.
Ever wanted to explore a life sized paper house? Yup, those you sometimes see at Chinese Taoist funerals… well come on in. (someone help me buy 4D 2359 $2 Big $2 Small, thanks)
Paper Paper Everywhere, Not a sheet to burn!
Paper, Paper, cardboard, cardboard, details, details, details. My hats off to the production crew!
Not just the props on the floor but also above you. As eerie as it sounds, do remember to look up and admire the craftsmanship of the props hanging from the ceiling.
Homer! Is that you?
Our Second stop is a scare zone called THE INVADERS. This is one zone science fiction fanatics will love!
Sci-fi fanatics will love this. Witness on going battles between humans and alien lifeforms. Expect stunning lighting effects and over and undersized Aliens.
Yes I mentioned undersized, CUTE RIGHT!!?!
Ok bro, FINALLY you are saved, stop whining in my ear while I was trying to take photos 😛
That’s a BIIIGGGG WEAPON~! Oh and spot the Cookie Monster again 😀
Next up, we head over to the TUNNEL PEOPLE house.
I swear to my dear readers, someone in the group farted during the tour or maybe it’s just that the Universal Studios Singapore wanted us to 4D experience Sight, Sound, Touch and SMELL…
Well maybe I spoke about Sight too soon as it was pitch dark inside, hard to rely on my photos to see, not forgetting that weird stench that continues to linger.
Oh it figures, they have a rodent problem here!
Maybe not cos they… they…
THEY HAVE A CULT PROBLEM HERE~!
And also most probably a Vitamin D deficiency issue 😛 Auntie remember to get some Sun while we get out of here ok? 😀
We wandered onto a very familiar place, Siloso Gateway Block 50, one of the biggest this year and apparently there’s a zombie break out of sorts happening. So let’s get moving people~!
*GASPS* urm… ehhhh… dearest summon auntie, whether you are dead, infected or still alive and well, I will still run when I see you~!
Again the people behind all the sets and props deserve a big thumbs up looking at how the place really looks like the HDB we all know.
Another thing to look out for this year, it’s not all about walking through the areas any more. So “Jack be nimble Jack be quick…” *cues Limbo Rock, Chubby Checker * lalala ~~~~
Bio break time~! Wash up cos we are still humans 😛
We complain about MRT breaking down but here at True Singapore Ghost Stories: The MRT, the situation got worst… it CRASHED!
Would you help her or just move on quietly?
Either a Witch Doctor cosplay from Diablo 3 or its a sign to start running! (which reminds me I need to survive all this to go home and farm more epic loot!)
The MRT must have crashed into some grave, can’t remember where… been too long since I last read “True Singapore Ghost Stories”
HUNGRY GHOSTS is a scare zone based on the local Hungry Ghost Festivals and Traditions.
Please remember that both the Chinese Opera Intented Audience and the Front Row seats are not for you.
Remember not to disturb the Medium in a Trance.
This one is really CREEPY even for me, you gotta see it to FEEL it… I think it is time to move on.
The last venue to visit is called conTERMINATED for well… I think the pictures will speak for themselves.
Red Bag, Green Bag, Blue Bag, Yellow Bag… Wait… What in the world are you?
Just a really fat b*stard lying here… nothing to see… lets move on.
And it is a wrap… wait, I don’t remember the moon being red…
The Verdict
I think it’s kinda amazing that they brought Singapore in. The MRT, HDB, paper dolls, really made me felt that I’m actually there. Haunted houses supposed to be dark and all but this time they really surprise me by making me see things clearly but shock me with those unpredictable hidden characters. – Jojo
We both felt HHN5 is more focused on localized themes, but the haunted house sizes shrunk however the details are amazing and well thought through. It’s not a walk through the park any more I literally had to be able to see and move in pitch darkness, squeeze through narrow doorways, get wet (not from the rain) and not forgetting, blasted with smoke effects. But all in all we had ample fun with memorable experiences. – Ken
