With GameStart 2019 happening in less than a weeks’ time, organisers Eliphant has been releasing more and more information on what to expect at the event. But If you are still considering if you should make the trip down, here are 5 reasons (in no particular order) why GameStart 2019 is the event to be at this weekend.
Bring on the Esports!
Esports is all the rage now and even our conservative red dot is seeing it pick up traction with the recent visit of a top Dota 2 team. GameStart 2019 will continue to see a focus on Esports, as the event has always been, with BEast of the East once again hard at work with SEA Major.
SEA Major will be making its return for the 4th time and the stakes will be high this year as players will compete in two major events, the Regional Finals for Capcom World Tour, and the Finals of the SOULCALIBUR Asia League!
If sports is your thing over fighting games, the GameStart 2019: FIFA 20 Championship also returns this year with a prize pool worth SGD 3400, thanks to sponsors MyRepublic GAMER and Armaggeddon.
Buy Buy and Buy!
GameStart has always been an event where your wallet will have to thread dangerously thanks to the many traps at each corner of the event hall.
Doujin Market (Doujima) returns again for GameStart 2019 as it will see over 40 booths taking part this year. A tip from the POPCulture Online team is to arm yourself with hard cold cash if you decide to venture into this poisonous zone.
The GameStart store is back again for you to stock on GameStart merchandise and we hear that Gaming apparel brand J!NX will also be bringing limited quantities of their Blizzard, Minecraft and PLAYERUNKNOWN’S BATTLEGROUNDS merchandise to GameStart 2019.
Local brand and long time GameStart official T-shirt Partner and creator of our mascot, Alyse, Xmashed Gear will also be running a crazy sale on their tees to commemorate our last GameStart in Singapore with designs for as low as $10
Games for Everyone!
What is a gaming convention if there are no game previews and at GameStart 2019, there will be many! GameStart 2019 will see playable demos for hotly-anticipated games be made available for event goers to try out.
Thanks to the team at Square Enix Asia, the Final Fantasy VII Remake demo will be making its way down to GameStart 2019 for the first time in Southeast Asia as a playable demo! Long queues are expected due to the limited slots as a first come first serve.
Other notable titles include Just Dance 2020 where Ubisoft will be bringing down a special playable demo while Marvel will be represented with both their upcoming Marvel’s Avengers and MARVEL Super War.
Battle on the Tabletop!
GameStart Tabletop returns to satisfy your need for the tabletop as event goers can fight battles in the Warhammer universe or enter the world of Dungeons & Dragons. For those looking for something lighter, there are also card games and board games to try.
So leave the digital gaming realm for a change and give the physical one a go. Be warned that the temptation to exchange your hard earned cash with these games will be strong so make sure you either guard your wallet or bring your credit card offerings.
An Exciting Guest Lineup!
GameStart 2019 continues to the trend of bringing in big names with Takashi Tokita, Creative Producer of Oninaki, and Producer at Square Enix, making an appearance on the GameStart Main Stage session on 12 October (Sat). For those with questions for him, do head over to http://bit.ly/gs19ttqaa for a chance to have your question asked.
The event will also see Luna Lorrain, a talented Malaysian violinist who has performed at various anime, comic and gaming (ACG) events, taking to the main stage to perform some of her rendition of popular songs.
An Exciting Weekend Awaits!
The 6th edition of GameStart Asia is shaping up nicely with what seems to be organisers Eliphant “showing hand” for the final Singapore edition with Gamescom taking over next year. But let us focus on the present and from the information released so far, it looks to be the best one yet!
GameStart 2019 will be held at Suntec Convention Centre on the 12th and 13th of October 2019. Tickets are available here and for Cosplayers in recognisable attires, entry is free as with previous years!
