“No No No Block!” said the kid seated behind me as his dad slowly and patiently explained the sport of waterpolo to him.

“Well son, it won’t be easy for Malaysia to beat us because we are more experienced.” He explained everything and even took time to quiz his son on the rules. Meanwhile the crowd around us was screaming and shouting and demanding for more. And the girls delivered as they continued to dominate through the quarters.

Our President even took the time to attend the game and when he arrived, it just gave the girls an extra 20% as they continued to smash through the Malaysian defence.

“Daddy we sure win” said the boy who was quickly taught by his father not to count his chickens before they hatch. Of course the boy didn’t understand at first but as soon as the father explained, the boy said “Ok daddy, then we must defend and score more.”

“You see boy, now you understand the game” the father said after giving the body a quick quiz. Our water polo girls won 21 – 3. A one sided outstanding performance.

But for the boy, this game was a life lesson. A lesson in sportsmanship, passion and doing your best no matter how easy or hard the task is.

Happy father’s day to that inspirational dad!
