Her “I Love Acoustic” album reached Gold in the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand and I’m sure you’ve heard it play many times over dinner at a restaurant. This month, Elliott Danker speaks to this pint size Filipino singer on her inspirations, dreams and best memory of singing so far.
POPCulture Online: What inspired you to take on these familiar radio hits and play them in an acoustic style?
Sabrina: These familiar radio hits are the songs we all know and enjoy listening to and having a chance to express it with my own acoustic style is actually an honor for me. J This is also a collaborative decision between management and Universal Music ever since the I Love Acoustic Series started.
POPCulture Online: You’ve visited a few countries now to promote your albums, how has the experience been and which is your favourite country you have visited?
Sabrina: Every country I’ve visited is beautiful in its own way! It was absolutely amazing visiting a country where people appreciate my music as well. I get to know new people, and learn a bit about their language, cultures and practices too!
POPCulture Online: What’s your best memory of performing since your first album in 2006 and why?
Sabrina: It’s hard to choose one from all the beautiful experience I’ve had performing… because every show I’ve done in another country has become unforgettable for me in its own special way. Just like the very first time I went to Singapore for a show at Movida, St. James.. I have never been that nervous before a show.. When I came out on the stage, the bar was filled with so many people! They were very kind and appreciative, and I turned out having so much fun performing for them! That was my very first experience performing in Singapore and I will never forget it.
POPCulture Online: If you could collaborate with any artiste of your dreams who would it be and why?
Sabrina: Jason Mraz and Taylor Swift. I’ve just recently released original compositions of mine, and I still am continuously exploring in the songwriting field.. These two artists are the ones I look up to when it comes to songwriting, thus I think, collaborating with them would be an awesome learning experience for me!
POPCulture Online: What are your plans for the rest of the year?
Sabrina: Well, my newest album, “Acoustic Love Notes” has just been released and I’m looking forward to touring around the country, and hopefully other Asian countries as well, to promote it, and for the first time singing some of my own compositions! I also heard plans of beginning recording for “I Love Acoustic 5″ so I’m very very excited about that, especially since I was told that there may be another original composition of mine to be included in it! Yay!
Acoustic Love Notes is available in all good record stores
