CharaExpo 2015 Cos☆Stage: A Ticket to Cosplay Collection Night

New kid on the block, Chara Expo 2015, took place last weekend at Singapore Expo Hall 7. As the brains and brawn behind this event was Bushiroad Inc, the entertainment company who brought us card games such as Cardfight!! Vanguard, Future Card Buddyfight, Detective Milky Holmes, and Weiss Schwarz, most cosplayers have made plans to turn up as characters featured in these card games.

The most prominent series cosplayed that we have noted as we entered the hall is of course, Love Live School Idol Festival. This series includes two anime seasons and a mobile application game that comes with both a Japanese and an international version, giving fans plenty of different versions of their favourite characters to cosplay from.

The involvement of Nitroplus as a booth owner also means that fans have taken the chance to cosplay from Touken Ranbu, a rising online game where famous swords from Japanese history are personified.

Of course, a Bushiroad convention will not be complete without card game tournaments! If you are observant enough, you may even notice some players have dressed up as their favourite Vanguard character. How does it feel, to challenge Suzugamori Ren to a children’s card game?

The highlight of any event for a cosplayer is, of course, the cosplay competition – Cos☆Stage. The judges have commented that although this is the first time this competition has been held, they were highly impressed by the quality of costumes that were brought on stage. The audience was surely treated to an eye-feast of intricate armours from various video games. Cosplay judges, Sin Izumi, Inui Tatsumi and Kaname☆ were also generous in giving feedback to the competitors on how they can improve.

If there were any feedback we have on the competition, it will be the need to make transparent the judging rubrics so that cosplayers who plan to take part in this competition in subsequent years will know what Cos☆Stage is looking for, considering that every other contestant on stage this year who have not won a prize has been extremely impressive in their craft.

The top prize for Cos☆Stage went to Evelia Tan who won for herself an invitation to Tokyo Game Show 2015 Cosplay Collection Night, with airfare and lodging included.
