5 Reasons To Attend Anime Festival Asia Singapore (AFASG) 2015

With Anime Festival Asia Singapore 2015 (or AFASG 2015 for short) less than a week away, organisers Sozo has been releasing lots of information for Anime and Japanese Popular Culture fans as expected… which is a good thing of course. Now for those still sitting on the fence wondering if they should head down, here are 5 good reasons to consider:

1. One Punch Man is Coming to Town

One of the more series this season is the story of a bald hero named Saitama, who through his extensive training becomes powerful enough to defeat enemies with just one punch. Together with his disciple Genos, they set out to prove their worth to the Heroes Association and defeat power enemies in the fictional Japanese metropolis of City Z.

Well fans of the popular Manga and Anime will be pleased to know that One Punch Man is a featured anime for AFASG 2015 and the organisers will be bringing in voice actor (or seiyu) Makoto Furukawa. The talented voice actor who has also done other series such as Yutaro Kindaichi from Haikyu!! and Sadamatsu Minatogawa from Mikagura School Suite, will be making an appearance on Sunday at the Day Stage.

2. Free Zone Area at Level 3 Suntec City Convention Centre

It is a common sight these days at events at Suntec City Convention Centre where level 3 becomes the unofficial Cosplayer area where photographers bring their mobile studios and cosplayers hang out and pose for visitors. Usually this place is outside the event area and is “free” for use with comments going around social media that it’s the place for people who don’t want to pay to go in.

Well regardless of which side of the fence you sit on, Level 3 will now become a free zone area for cosplayers to showcase their craft and also for brands such as BCL and Canon to setup shop. Those looking just to buy merchandise will be pleased to know that there will be an AFA Shop booth setup in the free zone.

3. I Love Anisong Reboots with Faces New and Old

For the first time in its highly-anticipated ‘I Love Anisong’ concert series, AFASG15 will feature an almost entirely new lineup of performing artistes, many of whom will make a debut performance over three days of concerts at the festival. Well ok almost a reboot as long time regular May’n will still be performing as like the first AFA held in Singapore. While BACK-ON and bless4have been in Singapore before, this looks to be their first I Love Anisong performance so fans of theirs will not want to miss them in action. Other interesting names to appear this year includes Lia, Aimer and nano who have their own following here in Singapore.

This year’s I Love Anison will also see 3 tiers of ticket pricing so as to hopefully make it more affordable. After all 400+ for VIP seating for 3 days is rather expensivs considering its close to a 5 day premier walk about pass for the recent Singapore GP but hey, it’s still 3 days of concert plus event goodness and that autograph chance.

4. Cosplay Guest Galore

What’s an Anime Japanese Popular Culture event without Cosplay right? This year’s Cosplay guest line-up sees lots of familiar names plus very interesting new ones as well. While names like YingTze, Liui, KANAME☆, Angie and Baozi & Hana are no stranger to sunny Singapore and have definitely a sizable following here, it is always interesting to see new faces thrown into the mix like Sansin, Otogi Nekomu.

These celebrity cosplayers will make their appearances at cosplay showcases and exclusive meet-and-greet sessions at the festival so remember to plan your day’s activities so as not to miss them.

5. Ramen Keisuke x Anime Festival ASIA 2015

Yes you didn’t read wrongly. Popular Ramen chain Keisuke will be coming to AFASG 2015 for all 3 days of the festival. Known for their delicious broth and interesting menu line up (our webmaster loves the crab broth at the Suntec outlet), Keisuke has become quite the household name when it comes to Ramen. While we do expect the queues to be long especially when it is at a Japanese Popular Culture event, they are usually worth every bite of the chashu and slurp of the broth. So remember to bring an extra $10 and queue early as each day will only see 2000 bowls be sold.

AFASG 2015 will be held from 27 to 29 November 2015, at Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre Levels 3 and 4. For more information on the festival, members of the public can check out www.animefestival.asia and www.facebook.com/animefestivalasia.
